( August 18, 2026, 02:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Three consortia led by LG AI Research, SK Telecom and Upstage have advanced to the next and final round of South Korea’s project to develop homegrown artificial intelligence foundation models that can rival leading global models, the Ministry of Science and ICT said Tuesday. The team led by Motif Technologies was eliminated from the project following a multilayered evaluation process involving general users as well as experts, the ministry said. Through the project, initially called the World Best LLM Project, South Korea plans ultimately to select two consortia, provide them with various forms of support and promote widespread domestic use of the foundation AI models they develop.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
