Chinese regulator clarifies rules on processing public personal data, flags leak risks

The Cyberspace Administration of China reinforced such data should be processed only within a reasonable scope and that consent is required where processing could significantly affect individual rights. It also added that practices such as unsolicited commercial outreach, using public personal data for online abuse or misinformation or collecting and retaining data beyond a reasonable scope may constitute compliance violations.
