Hong Kong building contractors face expanded bid-rigging probe
( August 13, 2026, 06:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hong Kong building contractors and individuals are facing an expanded Competition Commission investigation into suspected bid-rigging involving 28 building maintenance projects worth around HK$500 million ($64 million). The Competition Commission said in a press release Thursday that it carried out a second round of enforcement action on Wednesday, searching 12 premises including the offices of four contractors and residences of individuals believed to be involved. Evidence seized in an earlier round of searches pointed to a suspected bid-rigging syndicate and alleged efforts to coordinate cover bids and bidding prices. The conduct is suspected of involving bid rigging, market sharing, price fixing and exchanges of competitively sensitive information in breach of the First Conduct Rule of Hong Kong’s Competition Ordinance.
