Hanwha to seek South Korean clearance after KAI stake rises above 15%

( August 11, 2026, 06:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hanwha Systems has completed the purchase of about 3.4 million shares in Korea Aerospace Industries, or KAI, for about 500 billion won ($353.5 million), lifting its stake to nearly 5 percent and pushing Hanwha Group’s combined holding to 15.9 percent. The increase above the 15 percent threshold for a listed company means the acquisition is subject to merger review by the Korea Fair Trade Commission, and Hanwha plans to seek the regulator’s clearance. Hanwha Aerospace holds 9.9 percent of KAI and Hanwha Aerospace USA 1 percent, making the group KAI’s second-largest shareholder. The regulator is expected to examine whether the transaction creates horizontal, vertical or conglomerate competition concerns, including the relationship between Hanwha’s aircraft-engine, radar, weapons and avionics businesses and KAI’s role as a finished-aircraft manufacturer, as well as whether the investment establishes a relationship of control.Public notice is attached (in Korean)....
