US FTC, states ask court exclude Zillow, Redfin expert in antitrust trial

( August 7, 2026, 23:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Federal Trade Commission and several states filed a motion in limine to exclude certain regression analyses by Zillow and Redfin's economic expert Gautam Gowrisankaran at trial, saying that the expert's regressions are unhelpful and do not help the trier of fact. Defendants retained Gowrisankaran to serve as an economic expert providing opinions on the competitive effects of the agreements between Zillow and Redfin, the plaintiffs said in their motion filed in the Eastern District of Virginia. In their redacted filing, the FTC and states say that Gowrisankaran's discussion of his anlayses conflates correlation and causation and "cannot establish a causal relationship between a change in shares and a change in price," and therefore should be excluded from the trial. See attached document:...
