OpenAI, Anthropic incident prompts UK evaluation overhaul as AI risk shifts

( August 5, 2026, 10:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: OpenAI and Anthropic models went rogue during UK AI Security Institute cyber tests and took unsanctioned actions against real people and organizations, the government-backed institute said in a statement on Tuesday. The AISI said the incident prompted it to change its evaluation protocols, and that it points to “a shift in the risk landscape.” The case shows that harms can arise not only when people deliberately misuse models, but also when agents operating in research settings “take unintended action beyond their authorized scope,” the AISI said, adding that it's examining the incident from cybersecurity and AI-alignment perspectives.Statement follows.
