Australia finalizes Big Tech news tax proposal, adds LinkedIn
By Sean Maguire ( August 3, 2026, 07:21 GMT | Insight) -- Australia has finalized planned legislation to tax major digital platforms to support local journalism, expanding the scheme to include Microsoft's LinkedIn and raising the maximum levy to 2.5 percent of Australian digital advertising revenue while keeping the total amount raised at about A$250 million a year. The proposed tax will apply to Meta, Google, TikTok and LinkedIn unless they enter qualifying agreements with at least six Australian news organizations.
