Japan issues guidance to LY Corp over LINE GAME data transfers

( August 3, 2026, 05:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: LY Corp, the operator of the LINE messaging app, received administrative guidance from Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on Friday after the ministry concluded the company violated the Telecommunications Business Act by transmitting about 8.03 million LINE GAME user identifiers, including about 7.52 million relating to users in Japan, to a third-party information analytics company without authorization over a period of about four years. The ministry ordered LY Corp to strengthen its management of protected user information, review all LINE-related applications for compliance with external transmission rules and submit quarterly reports on its corrective measures for one year.Statement is attached (in Japanese)....
