US Chamber of Commerce backs Juul, Altria on appeal in antitrust case

( July 28, 2026, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Chamber of Commerce told a US appeals court that class certification should not have been granted in an antitrust case over Altria Group’s investment in Juul Labs and its effects on competition in the e-cigarette market. The chamber said that the lower court decided to apply California’s Cartwright Act extraterritorially, while acknowledging that the jury would need to apply the separate damages laws of each of 27 states. However, the court failed to identify precedent that would authorize a court to assemble a bespoke mix of liability and damages rules or to analyze whether common issues predominate.See attached file. ...
