Romanian compensation for solar energy investors draws in-depth EU probe

In 2011, the European Commission cleared a Romanian program supporting the production of renewable energy, and it approved several amendments to the plan in subsequent years. In 2024 an arbitral tribunal ordered Romania to pay €42.2 million plus interest and costs to 10 companies that said they suffered losses due to the modifications. The commission said its preliminary view was that the award was state aid “incompatible with the internal market.”Statement follows....
