Austria notifies EU of under-14 curbs for risky video-sharing platforms

( July 28, 2026, 12:12 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Austrian draft legislation introducing a minimum user age of 14 for certain video-sharing platforms was notified to the European Commission on Tuesday. The draft targets platforms with features considered harmful to children, such as recommender systems, autoplay or infinite scroll, and would require effective age verification for those services, as well as for platforms with pornographic or violent content. Under EU rules, the commission has three months to analyze whether the draft is compatible with EU law, notably the Digital Services Act.Draft law (in German) attached....
