Australia's Origin Energy says 900,000 customers affected by data breach

( July 28, 2026, 02:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Origin Energy on Tuesday said the personal information of approximately 900,000 current and former customers was accessed in a cyberattack. The company on Thursday said affected information may include names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, account information and partial credit card or bank account details. Origin has notified the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner while continuing to work with the Australian Cyber Security Centre, the National Office of Cyber Security and the Australian Federal Police. The company said it had been assessing a potential security threat since early July but only determined a security incident may have occurred after receiving new information on July 22, adding that the matter remains subject to an ongoing criminal investigation.Statements follow. ...
