South Korea launches franchise survey focused on mandatory-item rules

( July 27, 2026, 03:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s antitrust regulator has launched its 2026 franchise-sector survey of 200 franchisors and 12,000 franchisees across 21 industries, focusing on whether rules requiring contracts to specify mandatory purchased items, pricing methods and consultation procedures have improved trading practices. The Korea Fair Trade Commission said Monday it will examine compliance with those requirements, franchise-fee collection and awareness of the rules. Cosmetics were added because the sector has the highest average markup-based franchise fees, as the agency assesses whether franchisors are shifting toward fixed or percentage-based royalties. The survey runs through Oct. 31, with results due in December for use in enforcement planning and policy reform.Statement is attached (in Korean). ...
