South Korea retains adequacy status under EU's GDPR

( July 24, 2026, 04:08 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea will continue to benefit from the European Union’s adequacy decision under the General Data Protection Regulation after the European Commission decided to maintain the country’s adequacy status. The Personal Information Protection Commission said Friday that the European Commission found South Korea has continued to maintain a high level of data protection since receiving the adequacy decision in December 2021. The decision allows South Korean companies and research institutions to continue receiving personal data from the EU without implementing additional cross-border transfer safeguards. It also preserves the reciprocal data-transfer framework between South Korea and the EU. The statement is attached (in Korean)....
