Indonesia tightens oversight of biometric SIM registration rollout

( July 24, 2026, 02:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, or Komdigi, said Thursday it is strengthening enforcement of the country's biometric SIM registration requirements after identifying compliance gaps at mobile operators' retail outlets and distribution partners during the first three weeks of implementation. Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said all registration channels, including retail stores, digital platforms and third-party distributors, must comply with the same biometric verification standards. The ministry said mobile operators have committed to strengthening oversight of retail outlets and distribution partners to ensure the biometric registration requirements are implemented consistently nationwide. According to Komdigi, more than 10 million mobile subscribers had completed biometric registration as of July 16.Statement follows (in Indonesian)...
