Amazon's bid for Globalstar cleared by Australian watchdog

( July 22, 2026, 06:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Amazon's proposed acquisition of US-based satellite communications company Globalstar has been approved by Australia's competition watchdog. The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission on Tuesday said Amazon and Globalstar are not close competitors because they operate in different satellite spectrum bands and provide services for different use cases — Amazon Leo is focused on fixed satellite broadband; Globalstar on supplying mobile satellite connectivity. The watchdog said the merged business would continue to face competition from several alternative providers and concluded the acquisition was unlikely to substantially lessen competition.Statement follows.
