By Louis de Briant ( July 17, 2026, 16:18 GMT | Insight) -- The European Commission proposed expanding the EU Emissions Trading System to additional international flights, smaller ships and municipal waste incinerators, while delaying any broader aviation expansion pending a 2032 review of global carbon rules. The overhaul also extends support for sustainable aviation and maritime fuels, expands carbon removal incentives and introduces stricter rules to prevent companies from avoiding the bloc's carbon market.All flights departing from the European Union, Norway and Iceland, and landing at airports within 5,000 kilometers of Frankfurt, Germany, would be brought into the EU Emissions Trading System from 2029 under the European Commission's ETS review presented Friday (see here)....
