European privacy board calls for legal basis for cross-country cooperation
( July 17, 2026, 13:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A clear legal framework for cross-border cooperation is needed to reduce pressure on national data protection authorities, the European Data Protection Board said on Friday. Data watchdogs face a rising number of complaints that get more complex due to AI popularity. Enabling regulators to easily exchange information would improve joint enforcement and coherence, the EDPB said. To do so, the board suggested that complaint-receiving authorities could make resources available to support national watchdogs that act as the lead supervisory authority for a certain organization.Statement attached....
