Smartwatches, other products exempted from EU user battery replacement rules

( July 14, 2026, 10:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Six more product categories, including smartwatches, fitness trackers, electric toys and explosion-proof industrial equipment, have been exempted from EU rules that ensure consumers are able to remove and replace their portable batteries, the European Commission has said. Independent professionals will still be able to remove and replace the batteries of the products after the new exemptions, it said.
