South Korea's LocknLock fined $337,000 for data breaches

The Personal Information Protection Commission said Thursday that it imposed the fine and an order to publish the sanction on the company’s website after two cyberattacks in 2024 exposed personal information of about 1.3 million customers and 1,111 employees. The PIPC found that the company failed to detect unusual network traffic, neglected to patch known security vulnerabilities and used identical passwords for administrator accounts, failed to encrypt unique identification information and retained personal data that should have been deleted.
