South Korean starch-sugar makers face antitrust deliberations over bid rigging

The Korea Fair Trade Commission said Tuesday that it issued examiners’ reports to the four companies over alleged bid rigging in tenders for starch sweeteners that ran for more than eight years from September 2016 to June 2025. The regulator said the alleged bid rigging affected an estimated 940 billion won ($617 million) in sales. Separately, Daesang, Sajo CPK and Samyang were also issued with examiners’ reports over alleged price fixing for starch sweetener byproducts for about eight years from August 2017 to October 2025, affecting an estimated 1.55 trillion won in sales.
