Medtronic loses bid to overturn jury verdict in US medical-device case

( July 6, 2026, 18:56 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A California federal judge denied Medtronic's motion for judgment as matter of law, upholding a jury verdict finding that the company illegally stifled competition in the market for certain medical devices. In an order, US District Judge Wesley Hsu of the Central District of California wrote that after having considered evidence and drawing all inferences in plaintiff Applied Medical Resources' favor, "the Court finds it reasonable for a jury to have concluded that the confluence of Medtronic’s conduct — taken as a whole — constituted substantial foreclosure." Hsu added, "Even if a contrary finding was possible, the Court may not disturb a jury finding supported by such substantial evidence." See court's order. ...
