Deepfake tech providers must comply with GDPR, Italian watchdog says

( July 2, 2026, 14:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Providers of deepfake tech must ensure compliance with data protection regulations, the Italian privacy watchdog said in its 2025 report published on Thursday. Deepfakes can result in serious violations of fundamental rights, primarily of women, minors and public figures who are victims. Last year, the authority restricted the data processing by the operator of the nudification app Clothoff. The watchdog also cracked down on media literacy, facial recognition and data violations in the health care sector, issuing a total of €37 million in fines in 2025.Statement follows, report attached (both in Italian)....
