NetChoice says Ohio decision on social media law doesn't support defense of Georgia law
( June 30, 2026, 16:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: NetChoice filed an opposition to Georgia Attorney General Christopher Carr’s argument that a decision in favor of Ohio’s online age verification law supports overturning an injunction against a similar Georgia law, arguing that the state glosses over all the ways in which the Ohio decision undermines its position. “All three judges agreed that requiring minors to obtain parental consent before creating accounts on ‘social media’ triggers First Amendment scrutiny. Judge Clay and Judge Ritz agreed that singling out websites with ‘news’ content (which SB351 does too) is a content-based distinction that triggers strict scrutiny,” NetChoice said.
