New Zealand regulator extends children's ministry privacy compliance deadlines

( June 30, 2026, 06:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: New Zealand's Office of the Privacy Commissioner has extended two remaining deadlines in a 2025 compliance notice issued to the Ministry for Children, Oranga Tamariki, after finding the agency had completed most of the required privacy reforms but needed more time to implement its privacy assurance framework and reporting tools. The deadlines for reporting on Privacy Impact Assessment controls and the effectiveness of information access controls have been extended to Jan. 31, 2027 and July 31, 2026, respectively, with Oranga Tamariki required to provide evidence of completion by those dates. The variation follows a 2025 compliance notice issued in response to systemic privacy failures and serious breaches affecting children, their families and caregivers, and does not change the agency's obligation to complete the outstanding reforms.Variation to the compliance notice attached....
