Medmate, Monash IVF breached Australian privacy laws, watchdog says

( June 24, 2026, 03:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Medmate Australia and Monash IVF allegedly breached Australian privacy laws by using third-party tracking pixels to collect, use and disclose sensitive health information from website visitors for targeted advertising without obtaining valid consent, according to the privacy regulator. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner on Wednesday issued determinations on alleged activity by the two health service providers, establishing that health-related browsing activity can constitute sensitive personal information and that organizations deploying tracking pixels are responsible for ensuring compliance with privacy laws. The watchdog ordered both companies to stop collecting what it determined was sensitive information via tracking pixels until consent and notification measures are implemented, and to destroy previously collected information where permitted by law.Statement follows.
