CADE moves to hold dozens liable in Brazil railway engineering cartel probe

( June 17, 2026, 20:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Superintendence of Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) has recommended holding 39 companies and 17 individuals liable for engaging in cartel activity in railway engineering works. CADE’s investigative body began analyzing the case in 2016 and found that the misconduct occurred between 2000 and 2014, involving price fixing, market allocation, and coordinated nonparticipation in bidding processes related to the construction of two railways. The economic impact of the collusion is estimated at 9.7 billion reais ($1.94 billion), according to the watchdog.
