South Korea puts uncapped antitrust whistleblower rewards into force

( June 17, 2026, 03:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s antitrust regulator will remove the cap on whistleblower rewards and allow payouts of up to 10 percent of final surcharges imposed in competition-law cases, in a move aimed at encouraging reports of large-scale cartels and other unfair-trade practices. The Korea Fair Trade Commission said the previous 3 billion won ($2 million) ceiling and declining payout rates for larger cases would be abolished, potentially allowing substantially higher rewards in major investigations. The revised rules also broaden the types of evidence eligible for rewards in unfair-support and private-benefit-tunneling cases to include information showing an intent to provide support, and create a basis for enhanced rewards for technology-protection monitors who help uncover technology-misappropriation violations. The changes take effect on Thursday.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
