South Korea's AI Safety Institute, OpenAI sign MOU on AI safety in high-risk sectors

( June 16, 2026, 08:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s AI Safety Institute has signed a memorandum of understanding with OpenAI to strengthen cooperation on AI safety assessments in high-risk sectors. The Ministry of Science and ICT said Tuesday that under the MOU, the two organizations will share knowledge and best practices on safety-evaluation methodologies and benchmarks for high-risk AI applications, exchange technical information to develop evaluation frameworks reflecting the Korean language and local social context and collaborate on internationally applicable AI safety-assessment standards. The ministry said South Korea is the fourth country, after the US, the UK and Japan, whose AI safety institute has entered into an AI safety cooperation agreement with OpenAI.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
