Magellan's bid for shares of Barrenjoey approved by Australian watchdog

In a determination issued on Thursday but published on Friday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said Magellan and Barrenjoey do not compete closely in the supply of asset-management services in Australia because they focus on different asset classes and client types. Magellan, an Australian investment management and financial services group that focuses on investment management and specialist financial services, is set to acquire the remaining shares in Barrenjoey in exchange for equity in Magellan.
