Kyushu Electric Power subsidiary reports data on 10.9m customers missing

( June 9, 2026, 03:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Kyushu Electric Power Transmission and Distribution, Kyushu Electric Power’s wholly owned subsidiary in southern Japan, said Monday that an external storage device for backing up system data is missing, potentially exposing the personal data of around 10.9 million of its customers. The device contained names, addresses and electricity-usage data, but no bank account or credit card details, and there is no evidence of a data leak. The subsidiary said it has notified Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and will inform affected customers.Statement is attached (in Japanese)....
