Coles' bid for supermarket site sparks Australian regulatory review

( June 4, 2026, 04:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The proposal by Australian grocery retailer Coles Group's subsidiary, Coles Supermarkets Australia, to lease a site in Sydney is set to be reviewed by the competition regulator. In a statement on Thursday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said that the site is owned by Builtcom Properties 11, a private property development and building company based in New South Wales. The regulator said Coles has signed a letter of offer for a proposed lease of a supermarket to be constructed within a “new mixed-use development” Lidcombe, New South Wales, which is anticipated to open in January 2030.
