Japan, Philippines sign memorandum on data-protection cooperation

( June 2, 2026, 02:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary' Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission and the Philippines’ National Privacy Commission agreed Monday to strengthen cooperation amid growing demand for cross-border enforcement coordination. PPC Chairperson Satoru Tezuka and Philippine Privacy Commissioner Johann Carlos S. Barcena signed a memorandum of cooperation in Tokyo. Under the agreement, the agencies may voluntarily exchange information needed for investigations, including contact information of entities relevant to specific cases. The two leaders also discussed their policy priorities, including cross-border data transfers, and agreed to strengthen cooperation. Statement is attached....
