The Personal Information Protection Commission said Monday that the draft decree, which is open for comment from June 1 to July 13, sets out criteria for determining penalties in cases of serious privacy violations. The amendments follow changes to the Personal Information Protection Act that allow fines of up to 10 percent of a company’s total revenue for significant violations. The draft decree specifies factors the watchdog would consider when assessing penalties, including the severity of the violation, the scale of harm and conditions under which fine reductions can apply.
