( June 1, 2026, 03:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea expanded its MyData regime to the energy sector on Monday, allowing individuals to request the transfer of electricity and gas usage data to institutions or service providers of their choice. The Personal Information Protection Commission said the rollout follows the March 2025 launch of the data portability initiative in healthcare and telecommunications, as part of a phased expansion across 10 priority sectors. Transferable data will include energy consumption and billing information held by gas suppliers, Korea Electric Power Corp. and other energy providers. The regulator said the system could support personalized energy-saving, tariff-optimization and carbon-reduction services, while an energy-data-based alternative credit-scoring service is planned for later this year. However, actual transfers will begin only after data transmitters and the designated intermediary complete and connect their transfer infrastructure, with eligible transmitters and data items to be announced on the intermediary’s website.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
