( May 29, 2026, 02:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s Ministry of Commerce said Thursday that the EU’s planned new steel tariff policy due to take effect on July 1 amounts to "trade protectionism" that could disrupt China-EU steel trade and global supply chains. Responding to questions at a regular press briefing, ministry spokesperson He Yadong said China and the EU are holding negotiations within the framework of the World Trade Organization and expressed hope for a “win-win” outcome that would support stable bilateral economic ties.
