South Korea fines interior ministry, agencies over public-sector data breaches

( May 28, 2026, 06:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety was hit with privacy fines totaling 281 million won ($187,000) over security failures tied to Government24 and Shared Nuri public-resource-sharing portal services. The Personal Information Protection Commission said Thursday that source-code errors, inadequate testing and unresolved authentication vulnerabilities led to personal-data breaches involving education records, tax certificates, resident-registration-card issuance status and internal contact files exposed through Google search. The Rural Development Administration, two affiliated agencies and contractor MisoTech were also sanctioned over a separate breach involving about 575,000 records stored on an improperly managed network-attached storage system.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
