China, Germany discuss trade ties, oppose 'decoupling' in Beijing talks
( May 28, 2026, 03:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche in Beijing on Wednesday to discuss China-Germany and China-EU economic and trade ties, according to a statement from China’s Ministry of Commerce. Wang said China’s smart manufacturing, green development and industrial integration goals under its upcoming five-year plan align closely with Germany’s Industry 4.0 and low-carbon transition strategies, and urged companies from both countries to expand cooperation in emerging industries. Wang also said “protectionist” EU trade restrictions had recently disrupted cooperation between Chinese and European companies. Reiche said China remained Germany’s largest trading partner and an important source of foreign investment, adding that Germany opposed “decoupling” and supported deeper cooperation in areas including the circular economy, digital technology and artificial intelligence.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
