Global AI companies, South Korean tech giants face KFTC AI market study

By Wooyoung Lee ( May 21, 2026, 07:33 GMT | Insight) -- Major global and South Korean providers of artificial intelligence services are expected to become targets of a new market study by South Korea’s competition regulator aimed at examining competition and consumer issues in consumer-facing AI services. The Korea Fair Trade Commission will survey 29 AI service developers and 17 companies providing products or services integrated with AI functions that are widely used in South Korea. The study aims to assess business operations, market structure, competition conditions and potential consumer harm in AI services, as well as experiences involving anticompetitive or unfair trade practices. The KFTC plans to publish a policy report titled “AI Downstream Markets and Competition” later in 2026 based on the findings....
