( May 20, 2026, 07:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China and Russia agreed to extend the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation and pledged to deepen trade and energy ties, after Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks in Beijing on Wednesday. According to state media Xinhua, Xi said the countries should upgrade practical cooperation in trade, investment, energy resources, transportation and technology, while developing “new growth engines” through advanced industries. Putin said bilateral trade continued to grow steadily and described energy cooperation as “mutually beneficial.” The two sides also reviewed progress under vice premier-led cooperation mechanisms covering investment, energy and trade, and signed 20 cooperation documents spanning trade, technology and education.
