Indonesia presses global platforms on content moderation transparency

Speaking at a parliamentary hearing Monday, Minister Meutya Hafid said many platforms have failed to adequately explain their ability to tackle online gambling, pornography, health hoaxes and disinformation. She cited Meta as an example, saying the company could not explain how many people it had deployed for content oversight in Indonesia following a ministry inspection. Meutya said platform compliance with government takedown requests stands at only around 20 percent and added that the ministry is considering rules requiring global platforms to establish local representative offices to speed up coordination.The statement follows (in Indonesian)....
