South Korea launches public-private cyber-review committee amid rising AI threats
( May 19, 2026, 07:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s science ministry held the first meeting of a new cybersecurity incident-review committee, beginning early operation before amended network-security rules take effect on Oct. 1. The Ministry of Science and ICT said Tuesday the committee will help determine whether authorities should launch ex-officio investigations into serious breaches, including cases where public harm is feared even without a company report. The 13-member body includes private-sector experts and institutions such as the Korea Internet & Security Agency, the Financial Security Institute and the National Security Research Institute. The ministry said the move is aimed at building a faster public-private response system as AI-driven cyber threats become more sophisticated.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
