Platforms told to use detection tech against non-consensual intimate images in UK

( May 18, 2026, 08:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK platforms and search services should use “hash-matching” technology to detect and limit the spread of non-consensual intimate images, including AI-generated deepfakes, under strengthened online safety codes confirmed by regulator Ofcom on Monday. The measures form part of a wider package consulted on by Ofcom in June 2025, though the regulator said in February it would fast-track a decision on intimate-image abuse protections ahead of broader Online Safety Act measures expected later this year. Subject to parliamentary approval, the amendments to the Illegal Content Codes are expected to take effect in autumn 2026.Statement follows. Documents attached....
