Singapore watchdog targets online retailers over deceptive 'dark patterns'
( May 18, 2026, 07:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Singapore’s Competition and Consumer Commission found online retailers Boarding Gate, Origin Sleep and Light In The Box used “dark patterns” such as fake visitor counts, fabricated countdown timers and false discount claims to pressure consumers into purchases. The regulator said Origin Sleep ran supposedly time-limited sales continuously for nearly two years under rotating promotional names. The CCCS was alerted to Light In The Box’s conduct by a European regulator, highlighting the cross-border nature of the practices.
