( May 11, 2026, 14:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission has proposed updated benchmarks for the EU's emissions trading system for the 2026-2030 period which would allow industry, on average, to receive free allocation covering around 75 percent of emissions. The proposal, which will be subject to a four-week consultation, would also maintain coverage of indirect emissions from electricity use across 14 product benchmarks, leading to higher benchmark values with a financial impact of around €4 billion for the period, the commission said.Press release follows.
