Australia at 'critical window' to build domestic AI industry, minister says

In a speech in Sydney on Friday, Australia’s Assistant Minister for Science, Technology and the Digital Economy Andrew Charlton said businesses and government agencies should give greater consideration to local AI providers in procurement decisions. He said the ownership of AI systems will determine whether economic value is retained domestically or flows offshore. He said the government’s National AI Plan provides a roadmap for an AI-enabled economy, which is supported by more than A$460 million ($330.8 million) in consolidated funding.Speech follows....
