China urges toy exporters to step up compliance as EU toy safety rules tighten

( April 30, 2026, 05:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s State Administration for Market Regulation on Thursday urged Chinese toy exporters to step up compliance as the EU’s new Toy Safety Regulation enters into force, highlighting heightened regulatory risks for companies seeking to maintain access to the bloc. The regulator said in a notice on its official WeChat account that the rules, effective Jan. 1, 2026 and fully applicable from Aug. 1, 2030, will impose stricter chemical standards, mandatory digital product passports and new oversight of AI-enabled toys. Companies exporting to the EU are encouraged to build full supply-chain traceability systems, assess risks to children’s health and data privacy, and align with evolving EU requirements by 2030. The EU is China’s second-largest toy market, with more than $8 billion in shipments in 2025. SAMR warned that failure to act could result in customs seizures, fines and loss of market access, and called on companies to begin compliance preparations immediately.Statement is attached (in Chinese)....
