CCIA, other AI advocates say training models transform original works

( April 27, 2026, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Computer and Communications Industry Association, AI Progress, and NetChoice told a US federal judge that training a generative AI model on copyrighted materials is fair use because it is transformative. The organizations filed a brief in support of Anthropic’s motion for judgment against claims brought by music publishers. “Developers engage in intermediate, non-expressive copying of works — not to enjoy, display, or distribute them, but to build a fundamentally new kind of tool: one that analyzes statistical relationships among words and word fragments to enable human users to create new expression,” they argued.  See attached file. ...
