Philippines clears Jollibee, Viber holiday campaign of data privacy issues

( April 28, 2026, 04:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Philippines’ National Privacy Commission has cleared Jollibee Foods Corp. and Rakuten Viber over their 2025 “Holiday Gems” campaign, finding no personal data processing or unlawful access to user communications. In a statement Tuesday, the regulator said it found that the campaign relied on on-device keyword matching, with no message content transmitted externally. Delivery of campaign messages was based on country codes rather than location data. The NPC said there was insufficient evidence of personal information processing under the Data Privacy Act, but urged continued public vigilance.Statement follows....
