South Korean president urges global AI norms, deepens ties with DeepMind

( April 28, 2026, 03:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said global rules and standards for safe AI use remain insufficient, as he met Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis in Seoul on Monday. Lee raised concerns over AI’s impact on jobs and inequality, asking whether the AI era makes basic income more necessary and stressing that the benefits of AI development should be shared widely. He urged DeepMind to become a core partner in South Korea’s planned Global AI Hub, while Google and DeepMind agreed to expand cooperation with Korean researchers and universities through the government’s K-Moonshot project, backed by a science-ministry MOU. Google also plans to open an AI Campus in Seoul this year to deepen collaboration with researchers and startups.Statement follows (in Korean).데미스 하사비스 구글 딥마인드 대표 접견 관련 김용범 정책실장 브리핑...
